Admiral Fox – Begging for Our Lives
The criticism that much of political punk music endures is that it is too literal. It points to a problem. Rarely does it offer a solution. It doesn’t embrace subtlety. Lyrics are treated as slogans. It doesn’t allow audiences to drift in and out of the records as they would do in a dream.
In undemocratic countries, little opposition exists. Criticizing or ridiculing the actions of the elite usually leads to immediate and dire consequences. This is why people know when to shut up and when to hide their intentions.
In the places of the world where crumbs of freedom exist, people are able to say most things. But, things of importance are rarely said. This is why bands like Admiral Fox are needed. As is their direct message that can be heard on Begging for Our Lives.
In many of the world’s most advanced nations, the medical system is tied in so many knots that people in need of desperate attention and care never receive it. Admiral Fox’s brand of punk rock is not subtle, because it cannot afford to be.
Morning Eagle – Blackberry Blue
Genre: Post-Punk, Alternative Rock
For many, art is not just escapism. It’s a method of designing a different world. If this dreamt up world can be better than the one we already possess, it must, at least, be more interesting. Art is a way for creative types to get their dopamine flowing.
Some use slogans to power their work. Others, like adding sonic paint to a canvas in a way where the meaning isn’t known immediately. We’re lucky that there are still groups who use the guitar for these experimental, often very pleasing types of songs.
Morning Eagle find themselves on the single Blackberry Blue eager, daring, and not knowing just where they’re going. It’s a treat for the artist and the audience to be taken on a journey. Around the world in less than three minutes is no easy thing to achieve. Morning Eagle though just need the audience’s approval and are ready to take care of the rest.
