After Nations – Adhuna

What a great, beautiful, colossal racket hard rock bands used to make. And, now, as we celebrate the life of Black Sabbath’s Ozzy Osbourne, it’s a perfect moment to remember what we’ve been giving. But it’s also a terrific idea to look to what’s coming next. Has modern music really shown no improvements? Hasn’t technology, together with a wider understanding of theory and technique, not supplied new creative avenues?

After Nations is one of the groups that proves there’s reason to be hopeful. This is one of the groups that shows that, perhaps, we finally have enough motives to let the past rest. While heavy rock groups of the past figured out how to use odd tunings and whiffs of overdrive to their advantage, modern groups can do so much more. While psychedelic groups of the past offered to let themselves get lost in a bid to find a path, modern groups have most maps drawn out for them.

After Nations contribute to a new form of aggressive, mysterious, psychedelic metal on “Adhuna.” The main ingredient here is using well-researched techniques and carefully used modern technology to create a sound that resembles the interpretation of heavy metal by robots. Everything is in sync, in tune and in working order here. But what would music be without some kinds of spiritual hopes? “Adhuna” is designed as a ritual for the near future, one where pagan traditions and technological perfection will need to be blended together.

Real Kevin – Dynamite Hut

The real rock n’ roll fan is a gambler. They’re no different than the people spending all of their money at the race track, or the kids who burn through the parents’ cash hoping to find the rarest collectable toy when they buy a mystery box.

The rock n’ roll fan rolls the dice each time that they open the radio, or every time that they hit “shuffle” on a Spotify playlist of artists that they are not intimately familiar with.

They’re looking for music like the one produced by Real Kevin and don’t even know it. Most of them are actively seeking something whose brilliance will be obvious to them from the very first interaction.

Real Kevin’s alt-rock, well-produced “Dynamite Hut” has just one thing special about it – the song sounds great. From the lead vocals to the choppy guitar chords, you can tell that this is a single from the moment you hear it. And, if you’re a rock fan who’s heard enough radio over the years, you can tell that this could be played on any playlist and would feel like an appropriate addition.  “Dynamite Hut” is quite a find!
