Sirens Up On Mizen Head is a beautiful piece of moody poetry provided with a slight musical accompaniment and a polite beat. Much like Conor Oberst’s Bright Eyes albums, this could well survive as a poem. Would it thrive as well in the wilderness without the assistance of music? Probably not.
The expressionistic lyrics deal with torturously cruel elements, well-beyond the control of mere mortals. Love, extreme violence, a world-swallowing tempest make up the list of the matters of the heart surely to destroy a young man or woman.
This is a song that’s very attention-grabbing.
