A lot of guitar bands played some version of garage rock in the early 1990s. Only a few became successful. Out of those, only a few were critically lauded. From that litter, only a few groups are truly remembered by the public. The ones that are liked right now won’t all be admired in the future.
Is garage-rock that hard to play? Is it the kind of area in which only the world’s smartest people are allowed to get involved and thrive? No. Part of the great appeal of garage-rock is that it takes little to learn the basics. Another part of its great charm is that although the ingredients used are pretty straightforward, things truly come together only for a few groups.
Am Samstag are from Switzerland, not Seattle. But, the three-piece treats this fact as a fun challenge, rather than a possible problem. Their sound is not only built on Sub-pop records. They not only have Jack Endino helping them out with production. Am Samstag to create a staggeringly loud grungey sound that is so direct, yet well crafted that it can’t help but get the world to listen.
