Amplified! – “Psychedelic Love” Review

psychedelic love amplified

There are simply too many ways to discover music nowadays, and, frankly, far too simple methods to leave it once you have. It’s not just that the arenas have hundreds of signalled exits. Each medium in which you hear music nowadays, streaming sites, social media apps or ads, is practically inviting you to provide your attention for a few seconds before they’ll gladly assist you to be on your way to the next thing. That’s not something that modern groups like Amplified! or those who have inspired it will easily accept.

The great bands, in all honesty, did their best to lock the doors behind you. They did not accept that your focus could be fleeting; they would not take “no” for an answer and, in the process, they routinely became the obsession of millions.

But this was no campaign of taking hostages, no kidnapping involved. It all started with a promise – deliver sounds so thick with meaning that you’d forget any other thing worth doing. These bands made music as a one-stop solution, dropping out and tuning in.

Amplified! is in the business of making you listen. That’s why “Psychedelic Love,” a tune that stylistically touches upon the work of classic rock as well as 80s goth and post-punk, is both a single designed to thrill you on first listen, but also to reward those who choose to adopt it for multiple listens.

It’s the dynamics, with vocals that shift from softly spoken parts to soulfully sung ones, and with guitars that shift from crunchy groove to spaced-out leads that really sell the song. “What else do you have planned for the immediate future?” it dares to ask. If the music’s hit you just right, you’ll be staying right here, listening.
