Bad Flamingo – Numb
Genre: Indie Rock
Bad guys always do their business at night when nobody can see them carry out their plans. And they tell their plans to whoever needs to hear it in a whisper. They don’t just climb a hill in broad daylight and shout out all of the evil that they plan to be involved with. That would simply make no sense. It would compromise their chances and be enough to have them show off in court in answer to their intentions.
There are plenty of musicians trying to play bad guys in the world of rock n’ roll. Nearly all of them do not understand what the part requires. What’s worse, their audiences don’t seem to have much of a clue either. They wear face paint, host podcasts about all the damage they do to society and have their forehead tattooed with remembrances of all those they’ve slayed along the way.
Nah, evil’s done in the dark and in silence. And the blues is the perfect musical form to soundtrack it. Bad Flamingo’s “Numb” captures the blues’ confident, mean streak. While the singing duo may complain about being anaesthetised to the world, that’s just a way to distract attention. Bad Flamingo are burning like a man that’s been given the electric chair. This here’s the spirit of the blues.

You really need to set proper expectations for yourself when you’re dealing with the world. Take the good with the bad. Know the reason why certain people are around.
You do not hire a clown for your children’s party and expect them to stick around afterwards as you discuss existentialist philosophy with them. You don’t travel to beautiful Paris and expect the sidewalks to smell pleasant.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if music bands just provided the listener with the things that they most expect from them? How about poppy rock bands whose whole mission is to provide pleasant, danceable hooks and little else? Sign me up!
Kraig Durco’s “Peanut Butter Honey” is a song that offers good time and, thankfully, little else. The band members have their eyes on the ball. Their mission is to bring a smile to your face and get you to hum along. They do it so well that little more is needed.
