Mother Grundy – Numb
Genre: Grunge, Garage Rock, Alternative Rock
I’m not planning on running any military militias, any guerilla units, any war-mongering troupe. But, if I did, I know one demographic from which I’d be looking to recruit. My army would be made up of young musicians who have just recorded their first album.
It’s not fighting techniques that I’d be interested in. But, just like the smartest musicians looking for ideal accompaniment, I can also recognize the value of the enthusiasm of young musicians.
Malaise has a habit of conquering everything. This is also true of veteran musicians. There’s nobody quite as broken as an artist that hasn’t received the success that they feel they deserved.
Mother Grundy are far from that, despite Numb being the title of their debut single. They’re excited, they have more ideas than they can use. And, well, let’s not forget that Mother Grundy rocks, a trait that many musicians seem to forget along the way. How’s that for army personnel!
Bigkarma – Limbo Swing
Genre: Industrial, Alternative Rock
Similar artists: Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails
Bigkarma bring 90s rock elements all together on the single Limbo Swing.
John Lennon used to say that by the time that The Beatles had left Hamburg, Germany, they were over as a band. They were, however, by most accounts the most professional band in rock music. Not that anyone could hear them over the consistent screaming of their female fans.
Their writing was about to get better. But, they already had all the tools that they needed. Where had they acquired them? From all of the music, rock n’ roll, and other oldie styles, they were forced to churn out on a daily basis in front of a rowdy crowd comprised mostly of drunken sailors and prostitutes.
The 1990s music scene is similarly fertile territory. Like a breakfast recipe recommended by a world-class athlete, it contains all of the essentials. Bigkarma have come to realize this and are utilizing it to great effect on their call to evil of Limbo Swing. This is grunge, dark industrial-rock alleyways, and melodies that even the devil would hum. Bigkarma are a new band with an already clear vision for their future.
