Bury Mia – Am I Ken Enough?
There’s no reason to lock yourself up entirely from pop culture. Sure, subcultures may be designed to make you feel secure and make you believe that your opinions are better than those shared by many. But, believe me, pop culture will have a way of reaching out and influencing you. The quicker you learn to recognize it, the easier it’ll be to pick and choose wisely.
Just like 1990s pop punk became a topic with which millions were familiar, whether they sought it out or not, the same can be said about “Barbie” and other modern blockbusters. It may not have done as much for feminism as was initially advertised. And that’s a sad thing. But it did pour some questions into the minds of others and, yes, helped sell a ton of dolls.
Bury Mia are fun pop-punk riddled with anxiety on the wacky, fun “Am I Ken Enough?” It’s easy to get lost in the band’s energy and even whistle around to the melodies. But, believe it or not, there might be a message here. With more men taking more steroids than nearly any other drug, clearly, there’s a crisis of self-belief out there. And I’d rather hear Bury Mia, fun pop-punks than jacked-off gym-goers discuss it in song form.
Jackass band – Qui Nous Donne La Vie
Your musical heroes are all retiring, or worse, mounting a comeback/final farewell tour. You might be sad about the prospect of things coming to an end. After all, the music of these people might very well define large aspects of your life.
But you shouldn’t be. Instead, you should think of it all as a gigantic opportunity. It may turn out to be a good thing both for yourself and for the music world at large. This may be the moment when the sacrifice of these bands helps to make things better for everyone.
The fact is that no matter how much you like Green Day or blink-182, do you really want them to stick around forever once they are no longer in fighting shape? And, after all, why wouldn’t you take the time to find bands outside of the mainstream that you can call your heroes?
Jackass band sound like they mean business on “Qui Nous Donne La Vie.” This little-known pop-punk band doesn’t want to remain this way for long. Nah, they sound like they want every bit of success that was given to pop-punk bands who inspired them and who ended up playing to stadium crowds. And, no, they don’t sing in American English or Russian. They wouldn’t do something so predictable. They use French instead, and you had better wrap your head around that.
