Some of the very best bands weren’t very good, really. I mean, they couldn’t play well enough to open for Led Zeppelin or Soundgarden. The guitarist probably couldn’t sing, and the musicians could play their way out of a high-school talent show. But that mattered very little.
From The Sex Pistols to The Libertines, some bands forged a road for themselves on confidence and anger alone. They don’t teach you that at Berklee. This is a shame because when these feelings are honest, people react. When the ideas that spring from these are honest, audiences turn into lifelong fans.
MOFGY’s “Everyone Does It” is a track built on pure aplomb and a good deal of fury. No, not all the pieces fit snuggly, but that should be the least of your concern when you’re hearing punk-inspired music that features this kind of creative energy. Even the best bands tend to lose this eventually, which means we should keep a lookout for MOFGY right here, right now.

In the public’s mind, rock n’ rollers went from slobs with overinflated paychecks to symbols of resilience in the face of utter mystery. Oh, how the times do change. And, once these shifts did occur, did we truly learn just how much a rock musician would be willing to spend for their dream?
That dream can’t include fortune and fame as a rule anymore. There’s not a lot of rock in the charts. And, once it does appear, it’s usually accompanied by some fad that ensures it won’t be popular for too long.
Still, the powerful sound produced by distorted guitars and thundering drums continues to fuel the dreams of many, not just musicians but their audience as well. With this in mind, it’s been inspiring to see just how far some people would be willing to go for their dream.
By bread and mountain’s “Deluge” is an alt-metal anthem to chasing your dreams. It’s the equivalent of TOOL doing a cover of Bachman-Turner Overdrive. It’s meant to get you to shake your head, stomp your foot, and to get out there believing that you can do anything. And that’s something!
