CatDraggon – Devious Serpent
You’re not crazy! You’re being driven crazy by people invested in getting you to feel this way. What you need right now is a nice, long lie down and someone to whisper the truths that you need to hear in the form of a song.
And, just think what life’ll be like if you carry on this way, punishing yourself? Will you be doing yourself any favours, or merely break your back, and who knows what else, in order to make other people feel happy?
This is what most employers feel across a world that constantly tells us that unless we give more than we have to give, there’s no reason we ought to be involved in society at all. That’s the painful truth that CatDraggon on the most recent single, “Devious Serpent.”
That serpent is corporate greed, a faceless, soulless creature designed to tear you apart for no other reason than a quick buck. However, wisely, CatDraggon brings a playful attitude to the performance and a kind of gothic-Caribbean vibe to the music. Soak it in, and you’ll feel lighter. Let it hit you, and you’ll know someone else out there feels the same way as you, and that’s why some healthy way out must exist.
Maudlin Strangers – Spaghetti Western
Now, imagine that I’m one of those people who’s holding a clipboard, asking you questions, and writing down the answers that you’re giving me. And, also imagine that my queries are related to your pop culture knowledge and musical preferences.
Even before I ask you about the history of American cinema, I will assume that your answer is, at the least, “I know a bit about those old movies.” See, I knew it! You’re familiar with those things, whether you care about them or not.
And, now, if I ask if you’ve ever heard The Arctic Monkeys or The Neighbourhood, I’ll assume that you’ll nod in approval. Yeah, I knew it. You probably are even one of those people complaining about Alex Turner giving up writing pop tunes. You’ll be happy with Maudlin Strangers then.
“Spaghetti Western” is the naughty indie rock tune draped in exotic rhymes, hip hop rhythms, and expensive production that a good chunk of listeners have been hoping to hear for a few years now, ever since the modern Britpoppers have all but given up on the charts. It’s a light experience, but, then again, so are most nighttime dreams, and everyone with any sense would like to get back to them as quickly as possible.
