Charlotte Sabina – Never Tulsa

“Run! Do it as quickly as possible and put as much distance in between wherever you are at the moment and where you’re meant to go. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that things will just get better! They don’t, or at least, rarely on their own.”

The voice inside the minds of great actors living in a place and a time that’s wrong for how they’re supposed to grow up says that. And while it’s good to sit back and appreciate what you have, failure to act will lead to absolutely no positive changes. This is what Charlotte Sabrina understands, and the songwriter’s willing to pay the price too.

There’s no glory in staying behind, and nobody to write songs about your struggles unless you do it yourself. And, judging by the stories that we’ve heard of musicians and their evolution, there’s nobody more interested in your success than yourself.

Charlotte Sabina’s “Never Tulsa” is a heartfelt song about a seemingly impossible love affair that can turn real only if the participants do their very best to flee and break the spell that’s captured them. It’s a memorable, emotional alt-pop-rock song about the importance of wasting no time in finding whatever is truly important and capturing it for selfish reasons. Who else would ever give you a hand?

Dolo Tonight – Hate You Now

Labubu. It’s an ugly yet cute plastic doll created and made in China. Mystery boxes of it sell for about 20 bucks, and nearly everyone who buys one goes back to buy another. Some stores are refusing to stock it for fear of their clientele getting into fights over it. But are the dolls nice-looking? Are they going to improve your life or even make you richer once you sell them on? Much like Dolo Tonight’s music, this doesn’t quite matter.

It’s all a bit of dumb fun, and that’s the best that you can hope life will provide sometimes. It’s all a bit ridiculous when taken at face value, and that’s why you avoid doing it, a luxury that you’re not afforded in any other aspects of life. Finally, it’s a way to collect things that put you in a good mood and in this manner, reassemble the world around you as you see fit.

Dolo Tonight’s “Hate You Now” is a song that easily differentiates itself from the pack. You’ll remember it once you’ve heard it, I’m sure. It’s not just that this contains the best bad singing since Biz Markie’s “Just a Friend.” It’s not just the slightly creepy lyrics about hating on someone who will not give you the attention that you desire, although that’s best taken as a joke if you wish to enjoy the song. It’s colourful, silly and makes life seem just a little bit easier to handle. Whether it’s Chinese plastic dolls or pop songs, joining in on the silliness may, sometimes, be just the thing that you need.
