Definitely Maybe – “One More Night (No Love Remix)”

definitely maybe on more night review

Who treasures pop music the most? And, who are those who really need the experience of going out to a dance club, attending a concert, or even just visiting a cafe where they play soulful tunes? Yeah, sure, nearly everyone is entertained by pop songs, just as everyone watches films and videos.

But the people who really care about them, the people who would really miss them if one day those were gone, are those who need it for their very survival. It’s these folks who find answers to their questions in a pop song, have their future revealed to them on a dance floor, and just, perhaps, discover a bit of relief every time that they make the long journey to a gig.

In many ways, it’s this group of people for whom Definitely Maybe’s “One More Night,” with all of its talk about chaos, anxiety, and nervousness about the future, that this is delivered. After all, if you can’t find yourself in the lyrics of a really good pop song, you may truly just be lost without hope.

Of course, the No Love Remix version delivers the dance groove that serves the song’s theme just right. This is, after all, music for people who need to forget about themselves for a while, who must look at all of their faults, who need to admit to their shortcomings.

The lyrics could just as well have been stripped here and added to just about any emo rock song of the early 2000s. But it’s a chorus that you’ll hum once and always remember that gives the song its real strength.

The future can only get better. But it’s hitting some kind of rock bottom to realize that. Definitely Maybe manages to be both entertaining and frighteningly honest with “One More Night,” a song about looking for hope in the dark of the dance clubs.
