Ditz and The Planes review

The Planes – Unglued

Genre: Shoegaze, Indie Rock, Dream Pop

Similar artists: My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver

The Planes search for the language of love in the highest places on the song Unglued

It gets easier to ignore rock n’ roll these days. You shouldn’t feel sorry for it. Rock bands have done it to themselves. If you want to find the reason, look no further than the look of memorable songs, and the copy-paste strategy of many bands.

At its best guitar music is able to do a few things immediately. One of them is to offer a quick jolt of energy similar to falling in love or having the first cup of coffee of the day. The other thing it manages is to help you see ordinary things from a different perspective.

Some people spend fortunes trying to achieve this and end up with a monkey on their back, or a guru that they can’t shake off. The lucky ones get to do it with a song.

The Planes are in love and let this fuel their music. The result, the single Unglued, feels almost like having your chair stick to the ceiling all of a sudden. The Planes create a new perspective for an old song and manage to it with tremendous immediacy. Some just get by, and high, on a good song.

Ditz – The Warden

Genre: Alternative Rock

Similar artists: Gilla Band, Idles, John, Lice

Ditz share a deceptively optimistic punk-rock tune about the importance of proactive action on the single The Warden

Why do musicians put themselves through the drudgery of working in the music industry? Especially nowadays when the payoff rarely comes in the form of private jets and tall mansions. Especially in a music world where alliances are broken quickly and suddenly.

It must out of sheer love. You’d otherwise have to blame a form of collective insanity. Making music and promoting is a monumental task. It’s a reason to live for many. But, it also wears a lot of people down to bones and skin.

Ditz chronicle these hardships and their impact on the single The Warden. The punk-rock tune is actually a warning sign. No matter the intentions, nothing can be achieved without a plan. no matter the plan, nothing good can happen without risk. It’s a scary thought and it requires powerful, chilling music. Ditz provide the soundtrack to a potential personal revolution.
