Early Labyrinth – Suicided
Genre: Alternative / Indie R&B
We’ve come to know protest songs as loud, angry number sung by folks with beards and long hair. And, while one can’t help but admire those fashion choices, or acknowledge the importance of those sorts of protest songs 70 years ago, the world at large is simply not listening anymore.
Where is the protest song in 2022? Probably getting lost or misappropriated. Right now, most people think of protest music in either one of two ways. Either they imagine nutcases promoting their music on some strange corner of the internet. Or, they imagine musicians playing a political inauguration. Both serve fewer people than they should.
Early Labyrinth’s Suicided is an atypical protest song. For starters, it’s an R&B number. This may increase its likelihood of being heard. Secondly, it opposes war. It’s a topic that many seem to care about, but few do.
In a time of unprecedented freedom in the Western world, the only way to protest is to do it in code. Early Labyrinth develop their own code here.

Writing about music might be a lot like dancing about architecture. Then again, talking about Frank Zappa is almost more interesting than actually listening to the moustached skipper’s music.
But, sure. Let’s give it to him. There’s truth to this. The very best rock music, the one that Mr Zappa couldn’t stand, is as instant a Naples espresso. It’s primal, silly, and dangerous. It’s all of the things that the modern world can’t handle.
Let’s see what the world does with Wrong Odds on their penned self-confession of Psycho. At best, they’ll dance and indulge in their teenagerish obsession with horror movies. We will! This is deceptively simple music, the kind of pure rock sound that begs for repeated listens.
