Eclectotron – Space Pirate
It’s usually ordinary people who, feeling like the Universe has failed to let them in on life’s most important secrets, begin stalking rock stars. Some go through Bob Dylan’s trash, others take photos of rock stars while hiding in trees, and there are even those who would send thousands of dollars just for the chance of a photo.
But have you ever heard of a rock musician stalking an ordinary person? Can you imagine potential rock stars envying the calm and confidence of a successful office worker? It’s a fantasy scenario, but just the one that Eclectotron wants you to consider as the band ventures out into the unknown.
“Space Pirate” sounds a little bit like the quirk-rock of Devo or The B-52s, and like those bands, attempts to see the world from a new, strange light. Eclectotron may be fully charged and rocking like it’s nobody’s business. But what’s up with that confident lady in her eye-catching suit? The grass is always greener and all that.
The Expo – Eclipse
Yes, technology advancements breed convenience. And, wouldn’t you know it, pop music is one of the first areas in which this is felt. With every coming year, music gear gets smaller and more affordable. Much of the gear gets replaced by software. And everyone, genuine pop stars and bedroom recording artists, can all record music on a shoestring budget.
However, technology also has a habit of reflecting the times. Modern pop tends to be bombastic, direct and, well, loud. Certainly, with so many pop listeners available, there are those who simply can’t be satisfied with what’s on offer. The Expo caters to a different type of audience, to those who found the warmth that they needed in retro pop songs.
You can use tech to work for you, and this is precisely what The Expo does on “Eclipse” a song crafted to sound like a long-lost synth-pop gem from the 1980s, like something that OMD or early Tears for Fears might have indulged in. The song itself is hooky, using melodies and pace that draw attention. But if there’s a feeling that only this kind of retro pop can produce for you, The Expo might have you covered.
