Would I lie to you?: Leezy and Magnetic Library review

eezy and Magnetic Library review

Magnetic Library – Early Arrival

Genre: Lo-fi Rock, Garage Rock, Alternative Rock

Fakery and deception have done a lot of great things for rock artists over the years. Would-be rock stars, usually, have a list of things that they need to change before they can attempt to target the upper echelons of stardom.

Most change their name, all of them change their clothes. In interviews, they give a more exciting account of their lives prior to making it. All of them confess to owning better records than what actually makes up their record collection. When the dust settles there’s so little of themselves in the product that is being offered to the audience that most musicians struggle to recognize themselves in the equation.

Magnetic Library sound too shocked and humbled with the world on Early Arrival to try and pretend to be somebody else. This is music for people who can’t bother lying anymore. Early Arrival is a charming, direct, and rather desperate song. It’s the kind of dialogue that you’ll rarely have with a stranger in real life, and it’s about as real as things can get.

Leezy – Sierra

Genre: Slowcore, Indie Pop, Dream Pop

Similar artists: Lana Del Rey

A lot of people nurture and entertain life-long obsessions over music, movies, and the like. Why are so many people, over countless generations, enthralled with pop art to such an extent? What exactly does it add to their lives.

Well, at its most basic, it’s a method of escape or coping. It is what some expensive headshrinker might call therapeutic. Consequently, these people get especially enamored with their records or movie collections in times of distress. It’s a way to tell them that things might well work out.

Leezy’s Sierra echoes is cinematic indie-pop made for people that truly need to escape. The hazy, hushed vocals and the music video tell you as much. This is daydream music for people that have no other choice. Leezy’s living and singing just like they do in the movies. If history has taught as anything is that there should be people standing in line for this.
