Elle Shea – Capitalist Christmas
Genre: Jazz Fusion, Alternative Rock
One voice asks, “What do you want for Christmas?” Another voice replies, “I just want it to pass as quickly as possible.” I suspect that this is how a good deal of conversations about the holidays would go if people were more honest. The stats seem to confirm this. A recent study showed how most people are most stressed around the time of the holidays because of all of their responsibilities, because of all of the things they need to buy and because of the pressure to have a good time.
Most people have a really rotten time during Christmas, and Elle Shea knows all about it. Some feel down for philosophical reasons. Others simply do not have friends and family with whom to share their joy. And most people, having been exposed to so much imagery of the American Saint Nick, simply don’t have the money to buy all the crap that would allow them to keep up with the Joneses.
Elle Shea’s “Capitalist Christmas” is a cheeky, bittersweet reminder of why you oughtn’t to put all your trust in this thing that they call Christmas or any of the made-up holidays that may be coming your way in the months to come. “Capitalist Christmas” is more of a poetry small than a wintery jingle, but that should do you good. How many times can you hear Bing Crosby and feel inclined to max out your credit card?

Don’t expect your computer to get funky and hip any time soon. Sure, it’ll be able to use all of its 1s and 0s to calculate what a groove is composed of. But it won’t be able to swing it. Yeah, it’ll be able to explain what’s trending, but it won’t possess any imagination of how to use it. Don’t start expecting your algorithm to create a party for you. Leave it to the professionals.
Forrest of FangHorn are here to help, and they like nothing more than a good time. Sure, if you try really hard, you might be able to dance to the sound of someone hitting rocks together. But, to the ones who’ve known just how funky things can get, the standard is simply different.
Forrest Of FangHorn’s “Got It,” a tune featuring Lil Lenny, is so much fun that you’re inclined to believe all of the bragging involved. The song’s calling card is its funky groove, inspired by Commodores, one of the undisputed greats of intricate, sexy dance music. Lil Lenny rides the mighty tall wave all the way home with a rap that recalls Anothiny Kiedis’ bravado. It’s all enough to suggest Forrest Of FangHorn are the party guerilla that you need pouring out of your speaker and into your lives right now.
