Tom Zynski – Amber Eyes (Like a Catalyzer)
Genre: Stoner Rock, Indie Rock, Alternative Rock
Rock music, in the classic way in which we understand it, hasn’t troubled the charts in a long time. But, this is misleading information when judging the music’s commercial appeal. Rock music is still popular, but just not a concern of popular culture.
This is largely because pop culture, unlike what we’ve been lead to believe, doesn’t just happen. There are deals brokered for pop stars ad their songs to appear in cartoons, movies, sporting events, and even played during your supermarket trip. Meanwhile, rock music was, prior to the recent health emergy, still filling out stadiums throughout the world.
With this in mind, Brazil’s Tom Zynski approaches Amber Eyes (Like a Catalyzer) as if addressing the world. In order to do that, Zynski has made sure to work on his voice to the point where it can address the largest of audiences. The art of classic hard rock is alive and well in his effort, and we’re hoping that he’ll be rewarded for this.
Everyday Dogs – Play Ball
Genre: Punk, Hard Rock
Rock music, we’re happy to report, still comes in a diverse array of flavours. The nasty, cartoonish version of rock music still holds a particular fascination for a good many people.
Fans of sports will understand this, perhaps, easiest. It’s not a hobby that involves describing feelings or making sense of your childhood. This brand of rock, like sports, involves something visceral, immediate, and just as important as philosophizing about life.
Everyday Dogs’ Play Ball goes for over-the-top excitement. It’s not a strategy unlike that of The Ramones on their first albums. This sounds like music made by boys allowed to venture out of the house only on weekends. They’re unlikely to find much good out there unless they find a way to make use of their energy. Everyday Dogs have found something to spend that on.
