Strange journey music: EVIL SONS and Maragda

EVIL SONS and Maragda

Maragda – The Reckless

Similar artists: SLIFT, Earthless, Motorpsycho, Thee Oh Sees

Genre: Stoner Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Garage Rock

What’s with some electric guitar riffs that make them exciting even decades after they were first recorded? Why would a kid step into a music store to spend their allowance on a guitar on which they can loudly play such riffs?

Like any great magic trick, it’s near impossible to explain precisely how it works. The best that we can do is study the effects of songs such as the ones produced by the stoner-rock group Maragada.

Maragda’s “The Reckless” is a lesson in psychedelically tinged adventure music. These are daring sounds that seem to promise a world of opportunities for those willing to dare to let this hypnosis take them where it may.

Soundwise, “The Reckless” is built on memorable riffs and a driving beat, an excellent combo for long trips out through the desert. The vocals come in and out of the mix like a mantra. It’s hard to explain why loud guitar riffs would be able to achieve what they do, but we can certainly admire their results.

EVIL SONS – Talk Etc.

Similar artists: Inhaler, U2, Coldplay, Cage The Elephant

Genre: Indie Rock, Alternative Rock

Being a success in the music industry requires strategies similar to the ones you’d use in any business. Those that are able to find ways to deliver results consistently are the ones that advance through their field, the ones that receive handsome rewards.

The most well-respected art-rock bands are notoriously mercurial. They’re beloved for their failures even more than they are praised for their success. The fact is that the alt-rock bands of the 1990s found ways to write their way into careers filled with hits.

EVIL SONS’ “Talk Etc.” echoes the tense but ear-pleasing sound of classic alternative rock. It’s designed for immediate impact. It’s music meant to please rock fans and feed their latent aggression as well as their love for poppy melodies. Best of all, it works, and it’s reliable. EVIL SONS may not be a band that hipsters will love, but they have the qualities to achieve success. No doubt!
