Bleach! – F.A.R.F.I.S.A.
Genre: Alternative Rock
Similar artists: The Last Shadow Puppets
We’re all for the liberalization of the rock music market. For years, artists hoping to get heard by the public at large would need to win the favour of major studies. They’d have to play to their employers’ demands. Their careers, often, were successes or failures based on these record bosses’ whims.
Not anymore. Anyone with a laptop and an out of tune guitar can create music and distribute it! Great! Lo-fi, low-budget recordings are the way to go.
Although… what about the kind of music that requires money to be made. The one that requires a big studio, nice production and possibly an orchestra. The sort of music that Scott Walker created on his first records. The kind of music that The Last Shadow Puppets made once they were rich enough to do it.
Greek duo Bleach! are out to create that kind of sound, even if it means robbing a bank. F.A.R.F.I.S.A. utilizes a grand arrangement that, yes, features an orchestra. Beautiful melodies hang in the air a la The Zombies at their most confident. And, through it all, Bleach! bring class and humour to the proceedings.
Excuses Excuses – Far From Perfect
Genre: Pop Punk, Alternative Rock
For the first time since 1950, rock music is not the most popular genre on the global scale. Not only that, most of the time rock isn’t even present near the bottom of the tracks, on the radio, or on television.
The worst thing about it is that it has turned rock bands into meek, antisocial characters proud of being misunderstood by the general public. Where are the egomaniacs of old? How has this affected the Rolls Roye and fur coat sales? Consider those poor businesses!
We like a bit of confidence. Canadian trio Excuses Excuses have that in spades. In the video for Far From Perfect, they are playing in an empty room but doing it as if headlining Wembley on a yearly basis. Besides, they have the tunes and the power to pull that off.
