Faint Halos and Time Tides Reviewed
Faint Halos – This Means Everything
Get me to start a new religion, and I’d probably require five, maybe ten minutes, to cook up some idea that could work on the faithful. Should I have my religion taken from me by a hostile takeover, I’m sure that another five to ten minutes of deep thinking would lead me to another idea just as good. Creative work is easy, and elbow grease for suckers.
But I ain’t nothing special. Anyone could do it. The real question is how many cults would I become a member of while doing the research. Frankly, we’re all looking for someone and, honestly, we’re all bound to get pretty desperate at some point. And what about the people trying to make themselves invulnerable to belief? Faint Halos have a song written for just those people.
“This Means Everything” is a vry modern alt-rock song, one about faith and the need for it. This is also a tune written, importantly, in an era where science, history and recent scams have made seeking some sort of salvation seem kinda silly. The band’s moody, but passion-filled performance is directed to make you do the legwork and, possibly, get back on the old belief horse for something that really warrants your attention.
Time Tides – Return to the Cosmos
One day you’re chugging beers, rolling spliffs and spending all of your free time trying to get really good, possibly turn pro, at playing Tony Hawk, and the next minute you find yourself doing the same thing, but with the added benefit of a few more years having spent on this planet.
There are those who foolishly panic about the passing of time. There are even those who go out at the crossroads at midnight hoping to strike a deal that will allow them to travel back to their teenage years and spend eternity there. But all of that’s a waste and a bore, as Time Tides are extremely happy to remind you.
What happens to beer-chugging indie-rockers? They start caring about themselves and the world while making time for the ales and the choppy power chords. Time Tides demonstrate their newfound maturity and justify their quest for enlightenment with “Return to the Cosmos.” It’s not just a song that reminds you to focus strictly on the things you can alter, and not merely a song with lovely hooks. It’s also, and importantly, a song that uses the word “cosmos” in the title, the kind of move that only wise old-rockers might try to pull off.
