Far Caspian – Autofiction
Pop songs, for the most part, are supposed to work like a rollercoaster. They start out slow, bolt in a sprint, throw you from a great height and are careful to have you land safely for fear of legal actions and, ultimately, going out of business.
It’s all marvelously exciting stuff, sure. But for how long? The first time, as much as the 756th? The fact is that the dominant pop styles shift every few months because, frankly, people learn not to fear the sprint or the big drop. Far Caspian knows this and has chosen a different route.
There aren’t many things that are thrilling because they’re revealed precisely the way that they are. Some trickery must usually be involved, whether it’s the promotion or the use of some fear-inducing tactics.
On the other hand, some of the best, rarest songs are the ones that don’t require any makeup around the eyes. Far Caspian is confident enough that he’s found one like that with “Autofiction” that there are simply no superfluous musical elements added to it. All that the track is composed of are beautiful melodies that seem to float into the Sunset and dissolve. There are no sprints and no falling from great heights.
SunYears – Spanner In The Works
It’s culture that makes a country, or a region, great. And if you don’t believe, be my guest and visit many of the lands of this world where youths have not been encouraged to create their own art, where people have not been encouraged to form their own opinion, where nobody feels necessary to spend any time or money on books, records, or concerts.
The people in those places, victims of their circumstances, are the most easily manipulated. They can be convinced of an alien invasion, or that it’s in their best interest to elect a war-mongering, vile-mouthed politician.
The more evolved countries haven’t yet set up a fund for artists. But, soon, they might consider this necessary. What about the artists who have put their hearts and souls into their work, and who won’t get to benefit from these hypothetical riches?
They’ve made the world better by adding beauty to it. That’s really what SunYears realises as the singer-songwriter recalls all of his struggles and the extent of his passion for music on “Spanner In The Works.” The music industry may still have a long way to go before it becomes fair, but listen to the beauty of these melodies and tell me that the world isn’t enriched by having these in it?
