It’s rare to be introduced to a place that genuinely feels alien. The world is getting to be a pretty small place. But, FRAGIL, an art-rock group from Dusseldorf, manages to do just that with their minimalist electro-indie tune Gegenlicht, with a video that feels less like a promo for the band, and more like a tourism promo filmed on tape back in the 1990s.
There’s a melancholy feel about the found footage, similarly to the music that also seems rescued and assembled back into shape. Maybe the first rock critics who heard Kraftwerk felt were just as interested, yet confused.
