It must be terribly painful being a great artist or growing up to be one. For one thing, these special people must at all times be aware of their feelings. And they must do something about it. They must act on their impulses. If they don’t, they’ve just wasted that special talent. That sounds great on paper, but it must take a heavy emotional toll.
It’s no wonder most people choose to learn to hide themselves from their emotions or from traumatic events that happened to them in the past. But, the ones that manage to marry their disenchantment with ambition are almost always the winners. Do you think that fans of any art form just want to be told stories about days having picnics by the beach? A few, but certainly not all of them.
frog team’s “KAMIKAZE!!” is a debut single, but you can already clearly see the band’s vision coming to light. This is a band unashamed of making emotional music. But their anger is paired with an endearing goofiness. These aren’t people that want to burn their house down in a fit of anger. They want to get up on the roof and shout their grievances to the heavens and get a good beat behind the shouts.
Toboggan Man – Every Hour On The Hour

Genre: Lo-fi Rock, Indie Rock, Garage Rock
Every musician in a top band has to take a breathalyzer test before being allowed into a recording studio. It’s a sad state of affairs, but there you go. Can’t go having any drunks falling over their equipment and disturbing an expensive recording session. But, oh, how things have changed. There once was a time when you couldn’t get Steven Tyler or Keith Richard within a mile of a dry city. And check out how that’s turned out.
The health craze has hit hard, and rock musicians have been among the first to jump on board. It only makes sense that they would. They make most of their money on the road, and falling off the airstars onto the tarmac is good for nobody, least of all the insurance companies. Still, once in a blue moon that they are in a recording studio, we listeners would expect that they get a bit mean.
Toboggan Man’s “Every Hour On The Hour” sounds not just like the band’s had a few too many or like they’re used to having a few too many for years. It also sounds like the producer, recording engineer, and whoever might have been involved partook as well. And it sounds awesome. It’s rough around the edges but genuinely lively. It sounds like The Black Lips trying to cover The Faces and forgetting what song they started with. Good stuff!
