Gloom Balloon are scrap artists. They’re collecting elements that should otherwise not go together, and that few would even bother picking up, and they’re moulding them into something wholly strange and quite beautiful.
“All My Feelings for You” begins like a Toploader soft-rock plea at the charts. The vocals are reminiscent of Jad Fair of the brilliant Half Japanese. And, imploring to be blown up into a wall covering poster, the artwork for the single features the group’s main musical heroes huddling around a mock-Sgt. Pepper’s cover.
Like Half Japanese’s best work, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t believe that Gloom Balloon are writing the kind of love songs that have not been touched by the dirty hands of censors or corporate interests. Let your freak flag fly!
