HIDEOUS BEAST – I WANNA BE YOUR CREEP

You earn an awful lot of things when you decide that you’re not going to invest time or energy into acting or looking nice. It’s a lesson taught throughout history. And, in an era of uninspired copies and spineless followers of trends, it’s good to remember this.

Sure, things might not work out when you adopt these strategies. But it sure makes life more interesting. Diogenes opted to use a barrel as a permanent place of residence. And the narrator in Fight Club found freedom when he started losing teeth.

Rock n’ roll has always been a place where such habits can be supported. At its core, rock music is the meeting of dangerous energies that get you smelling bad and acting peculiar. That’s what HIDEOUS BEAST wants to explore.

“I WANNA BE YOUR CREEP” is the punk-rock, Ramones-like love chant to finding the person who can accept you for all your eccentricities and who may have some of their own to bring to the mix. It’s melodic, hooky, and lo-fi, just like rock n’ roll promised it would stay.

JAYSDEAD – God Save America

You have to use the tools at your disposal to get your message across. You have to use media and people’s short attention spans when you want to make yourself known. It’s the same game for pop stars as for U.S. presidents.

Anyway you want to look at it, the most powerful country on Earth has elected a president whose principal source of popularity is being a quasi-reality show and saying mean things to contestants. But it’s a strategy that works.

Why not use the exact same strategy to showcase the errors of his ways and the world’s general disapproval at the most recent conflict in which he has involved not only his country, but the world as a whole? This is what JAYSDEAD does here.

The point is that “God Save America” is also a well-intended song, a punk song with a gospel, “let’s all live in peace” spirit. It’s a rousing tune, and even if it is one done quickly to coincide with world events, it’s also as powerful as a flashy headline. “The world wants peace, and it wants it now!” That’s the story that JAYSDEAD tells here.
