How to Lose Face – Everything Is So Easy
There are some people who won’t ever admit it hurts. You could get a hammer and smash them over the head with it, and they’d still smile and say that they’re Ok. Those people are Northern Europeans. Admitting weakness, or worse, asking for help, is not tolerated. And while it is, perhaps, the most beautiful and advanced part of the world, its people can’t ever admit to having a bad day.
Nobody has verbal fights in the street, nobody says how they really feel, and if things get serious, you’re supposed to keep a diary or call a doctor to sort it out. That’s why hearing How to Lose Face, the humour and humanity of the music, feels like a step in the right direction, like an unexpected pat on the back.
It’s easy to get charmed by “Everything is So Easy.” The melodies are great, the production makes it sound like a friend burned a cassette of a demo just for you, and the vocals have a friendliness about them. And while there’s certainly humour to be found in the lyrics, make no mistake, this is also a song about despair. It’s a song about having your worst day and not feeling like you’re entitled to tell anyone about it. We’re lucky How to Lose Face put it into a song.
Silverface Twin – Fix Your Hearts Or Die
I know that you don’t want to believe me, but good intentions are everything! Yeah, I know you’ve probably just spent money on a book and video course by some American writer promising to teach you the secret knowledge of Machiavelli. But that’s ridiculous, gross, and you’re not an Italian prince, are you?
Good intentions are everything, even in the world of rock music. That’s, mostly, why this website exists. I’m sure that there are plenty of jerks who can pay double-handed tapping on their guitar while dangling upside down, who happen to be jerks. Hell, the most famous double-handed guitar player was often a racist drunk. But, I’m telling you, things don’t work out for these people, and nobody really likes them, not even themselves.
That’s the reason why Silverface Twin’s “Fix Your Hearts Or Die” is, in both sound and lyrical intention, a track dedicated to artists and those living near creative, left-of-the-centre communities and a reminder that it’s empathy, politeness and bravery that’ll do the trick. Those will also be part of the reason why people may fall in love with Silverface Twin’s blend of beautiful melodies and dirty indie-rock.
