In Loom – Tails

The people with the worst lives have it made. There’s a built-in optimism that comes with failure. It’s probably the notion that things can’t get much worse that makes a lot of people get out of bed in the morning. It’s this that gives them the sang froid to take on the challenges that a happier, more fulfilled person would feel anxiety over. It’s failure that builds a shield around the person who’s failed.

Most musicians, on the other hand, aren’t like that. They’ve chosen to invest countless hours into doing something that they love. This preoccupation has made them creative, has put them in touch with interesting people, and has even made them look seriously at all of the possibilities that life offers. Of course, a band like In Loom, veteran indie art-rockers, would be fearful of losing the thing that they’ve created.

Life, however, moves on regardless of good intentions, hopes or dreams. This is what “Tails,” the newest single by In Loom concludes. It’s a hypnotic, short track filled with enough angst to give you a 90-second panic attack. But that’s good! It means that the Dutch group is pulling on the right levers. And, besides, once you’ve realised what you stand to lose, you’re more likely to do something about it, right?

Kewl Haze – Stereo Junkie

Who knows what you’ll see when you hear it! There’s no wonder that for decades now, those eyes hidden behind black sunglasses are plastered on the walls of teenage bedrooms across the world.

They’re the eyes of rockstars. And, the kids have learned to recognise them not just as kindred spirits, but as people who’ve somehow broken through, who’ve glimpsed at something that isn’t simply shown to everyone.

And, just what do you need to do in order to acquire a ticket for a similar trip? You don’t just need to learn to tune a guitar, but become in tune with it, to understand that it’s a tool meant to transport your mind on adventures, to remain hopeful that you may be chosen. Kewl Haze is a band that still trusts in the idea of the rocker as modern shaman.

You should get a look at Kewl Haze’s record collection! It’s all made up leather jacket-decked musicians making hazy psychedelic rock. How do I know? “Stereo Junkie” promises entry through secret passageways that are only opened for true believers.

“Stereo Junkie” is, in many ways, a guitar ode to the power of rock n’ roll to be its own all-encompassing, everything-you-need trip through the stratosphere if you manage to tune in to the right frequencies.
