Izzy Outerspace – Beautiful Blur

You’ll be the first to know what’s going on in the world! And you! And you, too, at the back! How could you not? Your wrist is tied to a device designed to keep you engaged, entertained, and frightened. Its evolution is now tied to your own, and one of you, in strictly economic terms, is, frankly, more important. So, I doubt you won’t know when the next crisis hits or what talking points to use on your friends.

As much as I love being bombarded by news, advertisements, and a constant, gnawing sense of dread, there are moments when I want to hear nothing about those. I am that kind of wild eccentric. There are only a few thrills remaining that will power off the hum of the world, and alternative music is one place to seek that refuge. But it can’t just be any old songs.

Izzy Outerspace’s “Beautiful Blur” provides you with a great hint of what’s in store for your ears and for your imagination from the names of the performers of the songs themselves. You’re to focus less on the topic, the concept, the words, and more on the way this makes you feel. You’re to give in to whatever that human imagination of yours produces. And, should you so feel inclined as to ignore all the phone notifications by the time that the song is over, so be it.

Talk to Your Neighbor – Knock

People are more suspicious of their peers than ever before. They don’t just suspect them of plotting. They don’t only think that their evil nature will one day push them into doing something terrible. Worse still, people tend to imagine that most of their peers are flat-out stupid, unrefined, and incapable of judging problems for themselves. That becomes painfully apparent they have the nerve to support something in which these people do not believe.

Alright. But how can we get all of these people to become smarter overnight? Not everyone has the money to travel and witness new cultures. Not everyone has the money or the time to seek to improve themselves through studying. And, if we’re honest, we can’t rely on bookmarks anymore. Well, it’s debatable if popular music will make folks instantly smarter. What it does have going for it, however, is how easy it is to access, how its made by relatable people, and how, if you just close your eyes and go with it, the music will transport you to different places and will help you see things from a different perspective.

Talk to Your Neighbor’s “Knock” is eccentric indie-rock music where most of the time is spent on reciting poetry and on creating the kind of ambient sounds that the airport in Koln might want to hear about. It is a rare drink poured into a paper cup. It’s a touch of class in a place that typically doesn’t cater to this. And, its best, it is a gateway. Where to? That’s hard to determine, as is the importance of the ride. But just know that you will certainly be traveling somewhere, and you will return eventually. Maybe it won’t all seem to be quite the same. And even those people can’t complain about employing these kinds of strategies.
