Jesse Creatchman – Tommy Is A Heartbreaker

Why spend money on that new jacket anyway? There are days when you probably don’t even feel like getting out of bed, let alone dressing up to go out. And why insist on making an effort to find some thrills, to make life feel better for a while?

But what if Paul Westerberg and The Replacements felt that way? What if every single rockstar, actor, or great artist who had to escape some small, dead-end town and terrible job, had this little faith? We’d all be forced to listen to Coldplay and Sabrina Carpenter.

That’d be a truly awful world, and now’s the perfect moment to whip up a bit of courage. Need help? Jesse Creatchman is offering to be your guide, but you’ll need to start believing in the powers of redemption of electric guitars and expensive, cool-looking jackets.

The best thing about Jesse Creatchman’s “Tommy Is A Heartbreaker” is that it’s imperfect, that the author knew it, and had the good sense to keep it this way. Echoing The Replacements, and daring to dream big, and puff his chest out at anyone who doesn’t believe, Creatchman tries to channel the very spirit of rock n’ roll. This isn’t music meant to only make friends. This is music meant to make you smile at all the enemies you’ve picked up about the way while doing what you do.

ZDAN – so what!

At the heart of it, rock n’ roll is a terrible thing brought to life by nasty, charismatic, confident people. All of the dance moves, the fancy guitar riffs, or the clever one-liners are just bonuses, things cleverly used by people who have learned to get their way.

Oh, if all rock stars could be like ZDAN! But that’s not realistic, perhaps. After all, not everyone feels this self-assured. After all, not everyone has learned to use their own passion to fire up others. But doesn’t everyone want to learn to be that way?

Rock’ n’ roll has always been a game of manipulation, of intrigue, of falsely related stories. You shouldn’t trust the people telling them! You shouldn’t do what they’re trying to make you do! But you will!

ZDAN’s “so what!” is a song that rides a sexy garage-rock beat, and fixes it to the sultry, half-whispered vocal of the singer. The vocals sound like they belong to some vixen that’s calling the presidential office at any hour they please while making them kneel and do tricks. Is this what rock n’ roll is all about? Yes, pretty much!
