Justin Sconza – What a Beautiful Day

It’s easy to get cynical! I know, I do it a lot. It’s a habit that once you start, you’ll find very difficult to break. And it’s the sort of thing that, despite being meaningless, will make you appear wise in some company.

But what’s ever smart about wasting time? And, if you are cynical, this is precisely what you’re doing. You’re betting on things turning out badly, or on them not being worth enough to even get you started with them.

Justin Sconza won’t fall into that kind of trap. While most pop music is joyful for no reason, Sconza is happy to be alive and knows precisely what that is. Find who and what you love, and how can you not be?

“What a Beautiful Day” is a lovely, relaxed electro-soft-rock sound. It’s as peaceful-sounding as the title suggests. But, beyond the sentiment, Sconza also crafts a very strong pop song, a kind of low-key, synth-driven dream pop Beach Boys song.

Lukka – TomboI

Modern pop stars must feel a lot of pressure to act as educators to all the people who want to listen to their songs. Sure, they do! It’s simply because the history of rock n’ roll has had so many figures acting as teachers and prophets. But is that a standard that we need any more and at all times? Do we really need to have Thom Yorke and Bono telling us that, for example, war is bad? You’d think we would’ve learned by now.

The same goes for the actual sounds that we’re hearing. Sure, there have been records that have been transformative. But, arguably, enough revolutions have already occurred. Now, we just need to work with the information we have. Now, we just need to perfect all that we’ve learned.

The fact is that you’re likely to hear whatever hangs heaviest on your mind when you listen to Lukka’s “TomboI.” You’re also very likely to feel relaxed, calmed down, and more confident of facing your worries when you hear it. Oftentimes, I know, it’s hard to deal with big, scary silences. Most of the time, we need a sound that fits the moment and kills the silence. “TomboI” provides that and moves your imagination in whatever direction it needs to go.
