Soul ways: Kevin Sloan and Bad Mother Nature

Kevin Sloan and Bad Mother Nature

Kevin Sloan – Needing

Genre: Garage Rock, Alternative Rock

Do you always carry a notebook around with you? What happens in case inspiration strikes? You surely won’t walk around afterward simply hoping that a similarly great idea will just fall into your lap.

Of course, you have your phone with you. But you use that as a storage device for all sorts of crap. Better not mix your gems with your trash. It gives out a bad impression to the gods of true inspiration.

If you fancy yourself as a painter, musician, writer, etc, you’d best be within walking distance of all the tools you need to create your art. At all times. Without any excuses.

Kevin Sloan attempts to capture the weight of revelation in the tender, piano-driven song Needing. Perhaps this is why the tune feels more like a sketch. There’s no way to add to the truth. Your only duty is to capture it.

Bad Mother Nature – Paint Me

Similar artists: Vista Kicks, The Arcs, The Blue Stones

Genre: Blues, Indie Rock

I’m sorry to break it to you, but we are all less tolerant than we believe. This, in some cases, at least, is because we know what we want. Many times we don’t express it, but the knowledge has to be hidden in some corner of the brain.

Picture this: You walk into a large hall where a man will talk to you and the rest of the attendees about matters of great spiritual importance. You are all crowded together, waiting to receive the man’s wisdom.

Suddenly, the man comes out and begins to speak in a sharp, high, metallic voice. The man paces nervously on stage. They’ve obviously been wearing some sort of shoes designed to make him appear taller. Of course, people leave unfulfilled spiritually.

The same can be said about music meant to fulfill listeners spiritually. Luckily, Bad Mother Nature’s Paint Me benefits from the kind of lead vocals that just about ay listener of modern music will indicate as soulful, well-controlled, and good. Appearances may occasionally be deceiving, but the first impression of the human voice on a blues-rock record shows the way pretty accurately.
