KNETX – generator
KNETX is a band that has earned enough experience to know what doesn’t work. They know the things that will not get an audience’s attention. They know how to avoid recording the kinds of songs that you’ll feel little connection with after just a few months.
By process of elimination, the group’s also figured out how to maximise the band members’ abilities. Getting noticed is about not providing listeners with the same thing over and over again. Not even in the same song. Dynamics and variety are key.
Audiences expect dynamics. They need to be tricked into liking something, even if it’s good. They require a bit of tension to get their blood rushing to their brains before a satisfying conclusion is provided.
KNETX’s “generator” is big-league alt-rock. It’s well-sung, well-performed, and manages to switch from a whisper to a scream on a dime. It’s the alt-rock formula used to tremendous effect. Will audiences buy it? It has just about everything it needs. And, most importantly, KNETX has figured out, first, what simply does not work.
FLIRT – Sunflower
FLIRT is looking for an echo. The alt-rock band’s music functions just like some gigantic sonar of emotion. It beams out its message into the wild and prays that it will hit something, that there’s someone out there to receive it.
That is the one escape artists can hope for. The rest of the promises are treacherous. Sure, there are some creative thinkers, even rock musicians, who have managed to get themselves rich, famous, and known by millions of people.
So what? Wealth doesn’t produce understanding. Not automatically. Sure, it may seem absurd for those looking from the sidelines. Still, an artist pushed to the brink who can’t find others who’ve landed on the same edge won’t have met their goal.
FLIRT’s grunge, emotional single “Sunflower” is a declaration of war against sadness, boredom and depression. The well-sung, nicely put-together song should make you feel like you’re hearing all of this for the first time. That’s the gift of good performers. In truth, this is an age-old truth. And it’s precisely because of this that FLIRT’s mission has to be a success. The band has put something into the world that should resonate with many. And, the song has enough going for it that it can be adopted by all of these potential fans.
