L.O.E – After All Is Said & Done

We all played a role in the demise of music. It happened when each one of us demanded something that made musicians have to work less, dream less often, and not have to stretch their creative muscles as much as they used to do.

Sure, we’d all like to blame it on TikTok videos and on radio stations playing only the hook of songs. That’s not something that helped. And in every kid who tries to produce a song on their laptop using a canned beat that they got off the internet, you can hear some of that.

But it also happened when punk bands decided to write 2-minute songs and cut out the guitar solos. It happened when pop-rock bands decided that you could repeat the chorus three or four times in a song. And the hitmakers who established their patterns for success didn’t help either.

Put your thinking cap on and get yourself a map to the stars. We’re about to go cosmic. L.O.E is providing the jet field and the food for thought on the proggy, post-rock of “After All Is Said & Done.” Now, I can promise you that you will be able to remember a melody or two. But you’ll need to focus. Wasn’t this the deal all along? L.O.E takes things back to a time when musicians were encouraged to do their work, not dance around our inability to pay attention.

ProjeKT – how sad, really

Things get smaller. With time, the quality goes away. They’re made faster, delivered quicker and sold to the widest possible audience before buyers have a chance to wise up to the way that the product gets made. It’s the economics of a slow-paced road to bankruptcy.

It happens to music as well. But ProjeKT isn’t in the camp of musicians who are willing to compromise. When most tailor their music for TikTok videos and ad endorsements, ProjeKT injects a bit of prog-rock finesse into its music.

There aren’t many making a resistance. Still, those who haven’t given up on their standards are putting up a great fight. Sure, 99% of modern music is made up of small jingles made up of beats downloaded from the internet. That 1% that includes real artists makes paying attention to it worthwhile.

What you’ll first notice about ProjeKT’s “how sad, really,” more than likely, are the pristine vocals and the great tone control. It’s the kind of singing that belongs to the carefully designed music of a progressive-rock group.

But ProjeKT avoids cliches by bringing in a song structure and sound reminiscent of 90s alternative metal and interesting, mysterious storytelling. I’ve no idea how you promote this through 30-second videos for social media. But I suspect that this really is not the point.
