Lady Di sounds like the band that crashed the pop-star audition line. Focused and chock-full of energy there’s a devil may care attitude about the group on the apocalyptic single “Peanut Cup”. Yes, this unfortunately also somewhat extends to the production, which is a bit murky, and the playing, which is a bit simplistic.
However, garage rock and punk, the styles that the group draws from here, are built on young, elastic bones. Lady Di lean into those familiar power chords with glee, and throw in melodies, that although unlikely to surprise familiar listeners of these genres, prove inspired choices. Here’s a group that sounds like a high school band that could be going places.
