The Moniker – Thank You for the Summer
Similar artists: The Beatles, The Mamas and The Papas, Blur, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros
Genre: Indie Pop, Power Pop
If you’re reading this right now, chances are that music means everything to you. Likely pop-rock tunes not only accompany your life serving as a soundtrack. They go way beyond that and help you make sense of the past, help settle the present, and even announce what the future is bound to hold. Yeah, it’s special alright.
And, while I don’t mean to spoil it for you, it’s good to remember who this kind of music was aimed at in its opening years. This is music for teenagers. It’s music for dancing. And, it is certainly designed to help people get through troubles, rather than help them moan about them. Pretty special.
With that in mind, judge The Moniker’s Thank You for the Summer as the sickly sweet teenager anthem that all your favorite bands wish to write. This is Swedish pop. And, a quick glance at the history of pop music created by these Scandinavians will go a long way to explaining The Moniker’s excellent command of the most saccharine kind of melodies. Is this exactly a fit for Alt77? When your teenage ode for the sun is this catchy, yes, it is.

I’m not here to tell you who and what you should like. But, I’d like to wheel in the right direction, and on the good side of the world. I wouldn’t want you to blurt the wrong thing out and destroy your reputation forever. Or, worse. Like wearing an “I love Europe” t-shirt in towns around London, it’s best not to take foolish chances.
I can start by telling you who I don’t trust, and you can make sense of things from there. It’s hard to trust someone that hates babies and kittens. It’s difficult to trust someone that says they never drink alcohol or fully abstain from sugar. And, of course, it’s hard to believe somebody that tells you that they absolutely hate pretty pop songs.
Pop songs complete with beautiful melodies won’t get you in good with the folks from your art class. But, they are undeniable. Lucas Laufen’s Weathering is such a beautiful song, that classic folk artists might hear this and think that they’ve gone about their careers all wrong, all along. You don’t have to believe me, but you do need to step inside the gentle magic of the tune. Yes, it’s the kind of love long that is played while somebody proposes right after having had desert in an expensive restaurant. But, what of it. Music is magic, and it can be conjured by anybody.
