Dead Cassettes – RNA In Our DNA
Genre: Alternative Rock
One of the cliches about growing up in difficult circumstances is that, invariably, things will get better as time goes on. Now, there’s no guarantee that this will be the case. However, what is certain is that once one finishes school, becomes an adult, and is able to make their own decisions, they will finally have a chance of crafting their own world.
Now, this is quite a luxury. For many artists, this is the only luxury that they can afford or even desire. Dead Cassettes’ Bradlea-Roi speaks about the feeling of alienation from the rest of the kids because of art that dominated the future musician’s imagination. Weirdness tends to pay off.
Dead Cassettes’ RNA In Our DNA captures the general feeling of vulnerability and dread of the modern era. The sound and video may bring to mind some of alternative rock’s superheroes. But, this is merely a stepping stone. The Atlanta duo has created their very own, unique blend. RNA In Our DNA feels like tribal post-punk at times, and gospel rock music in other moments. It’s a powerful and inventive sound
Mackin Carroll – Vampires
Genre: Indie Folk, Indie Rock
My more conspiracy-minded friends always talk about the way that Western countries seem to embrace any kind of holiday that permits them to drink, mingle and have fun. Of course, it does! But, isn’t it forgivable that people would look for excuses to do those things? Life leaves little to be celebrated most of the time.
But, what about the many folks that feel anxious among others? What’s their holiday going to be? Is anyone making an effort to reach the people that aren’t clambering to join the party, or do they just matter less? In truth, most people feel out of place, constantly threatened about being among strangers, and find the greatest solace in just being alone.
Mackin Carroll sounds like the kind of young person that one might expect to become a future Unabomber or a great poet. His current road has him exploring the latter version. Vampires is a Halloween tune about the wait for Halloween to be over. It’s a love letter to all the people that make social commitments and count the seconds until they can return home.
