Meimuna – tomber de haut

If you’re walking down a very crowded street, stop suddenly and start staring intensely at an object in the distance; everyone who will notice you will stare in the same direction. Many will stop. Some will ask others what you are looking at. And some will even ask you.

There’s no way, regardless of who you are or where you are from, to get that trick to fail. Congratulations! You’ve just influenced a large group of people. Of course, you haven’t enriched or harmed their lives in any significant way. But now that you know how that works, you could do it.

Popular music influences culture more than most things. When popular music is done in a single way, or by a single group of people, everyone who hears it loses out. They lose out on other perspectives. Their imagination gets challenged because it is not challenged.

The fact that Meimuna’s ‘tomber de haut” is sung in French isn’t the most interesting thing about it. The tenderness with which it is sung, the dreamy architecture of the music, and the undercurrent of anxiety are much more interesting. But all of these things are tied to one another. And, the fact remains. This is music made from a different perspective, alternative music, and something as simple as this can help to change your perspective.

Born Runner – Do It Like This

If you have something that helps you stand out from the crowd, there’s no reason to feel ashamed, to hide it away, to avoid using it. For the majority of your life, you will be a face in the crowd. Almost nobody that you encounter on a daily basis will remember you, your name, or any of your ideas. And, if that ain’t enough, even your best friends might forget to call.

Some easily stand out while others have to work at it. They need to study crowds and their reactions to stimuli. They are fated to become masters of psychology, able to discern a person’s reaction and switch their pitch on a dime. These sorts of people become really popular social butterflies, or they use their knowledge to sell insurance or pop songs.

Born Runner has studied the minimalist, poppy blues-rock hits of yesteryear, and they’ve come up with a few formulas. They’re ready to try them out on anyone who will listen and “Do It Like This” is the result. The song is designed to be catchy and succeeds in grabbing the listener’s attention of the bat. It may a little light in places, but that’s also its charm. This is a song that can easily be used in product advertisements. Born Runner know this. And, sometimes, this ain’t such a bad thing.
