People make a big fuss about how many singers have taken from Eddie Vedder’s style of singing (I’ve heard it called “yarling” a few times).
In hard rock, a lot of singers resemble Robert Plant. But, it’s odd, to me at least, how few mention the school of Ian Curtis vocals. It dominates most of post-punk and serious-minded indie. Michigan Left attended that seminar.
But, while their sound is moody, dark, descriptive of the horrific natural forces, they’ve also acquired a taste for grandiose Coldplay-inspired arrangements. The result is Waves, a big tune manufactured for sizable audiences.
