Milk St. – Just So
The world’s a marvellous, surprising and fun place. All you need to do to properly benefit from all of the things that it can offer you, however, is to find some strategies to help you avoid thinking too much about all of the terrible, depressing, and devastating things that are also trapped with you in this world. Methods do exist, but nobody can tell for sure if they work on everyone.
Ironically, while all the effort required in keeping the bad thoughts away tends to be exhausting for the people forced to do this work, nature, in its infinite wisdom and humour, tends to balance things out. The ones working the hardest to keep the blues away are, often, the most creative, clever, and efficient of people.
It’s just too bad that they can’t enjoy it all. It’s a wonder that they manage to get anything done. This is what Milk St.’s excellently colourful and funny “Just So” would like to let you know. The songwriter tells the story of someone who has the world on a string, but just can’t find a way to enjoy this privilege. Ah, well, it’s better than nothing. Milk St. finds the meaning of true joy, in the end, even if it’s just pretend.
Salmon Shorts – Synonym
It could all be gone in a second. You can just be minding your own business, going about the things that you do on a regular basis, and everything could just change. People are replaceable, and you probably fear that you might be one of those people. And it never seems to matter how good or important you become for all these fears to simply disappear.
Not even rock stars are safe. For every famous band that’s still listened to decades after their initial releases, there are dozens who held on to success for a brief moment before being usurped and thrown away. Yeah, even artists have to be fearful of their future and reputations, and Salmon Shorts provide a soundtrack to these fears.
“Synonym” sounds like music meant to accompany a Sunday morning where getting out of bed feels nearly impossible. But it’s not a total gloom fest. The music is charming and playful. The guitars sound like someone adding a fuzz box to lines swiped from children’s nursery rhyme melodies. Salmon Shorts is slacker rock for people who secretly fear that nothing’s going to work out.
