MojoPin – Out The Door

The complaint that some listeners levelled at 1990s grunge, probably the most popular form of rock music of the era, was that, to their minds, the songs included a great quantity of complaints and a darkness that tied the artists making this music together.

Yes, that’s not entirely unfair. However, this is just one of the reasons why so many listeners felt a connection with this style of music and still do. After all, don’t regular people go through troubles, and don’t they need to find strategies to overcome them?

Just in the same way that you’re unlikely to visit a therapist’s office and spend the whole time talking about a wonderful party that you recently attended, this type of alt-rock doesn’t, typically, focus on joys, because there’s no reason to give those any additional attention. The problems, however, as MojoPin understands, need to be dissected.

The thrilling thing about MojoPin’s “Out the Door” is that the band approximates the mysterious, dynamic sound of 1990s grunge, and the execution is fantastic. If that’s a sound that you enjoyed, you’ll find no reason not to like this.

However, this is also an anthemic, possibly even therapeutic listen. “Out the Door” is a song about escaping the toxicity, about avoiding people who drain your energy. Isn’t that a hopeful message that you won’t receive from typical radio pop hits?

Panthercaps – Idiocracy

You’ve probably heard the complaints or have even been one of the ones to issue them. You’ve probably leafed through the history books, read about some of the worst atrocities in human history and thought: “How could people let this happen?”

But, just look at us now! We’re standing, collectively, on the edge of the precipice and rather than moving away from the danger, we’re arguing among ourselves about who’s going to be the one to drag us all to safety.

IQ points are dropping every few years. If things keep moving in this direction, there might not even be enough people able to read these blog posts in a few years. But, terrible things happen when good rock bands do nothing. Panthercaps, playing their part, place a finger straight on the womb.

“Idiocracy” is this German grunge/alt-rock band’s single, and, frankly, it’s a word tossed around a lot over the past few years. Usually, it is used when people say, “Can’t believe that movie turned out to be a documentary, not a comedy.” However, as the intensity of Panthercaps’ shows, unless you also start getting really upset about the corruption, wars, or ecological issues, the backwards slide has become inevitable.
