Monokino is the solo project of Dutch composer George van Wetering. On reading through the label-approved biography of Mr. Wetering, I deduce that unlike many of his contemporaries, this is not a man much concerned with fitting in.
No return is an interestingly crafted tune sung in Mandarin Chinese, soon to be released as a single by a Chinese record label. The song features vocals that seem to float into the ether, spacious violin sounds, Eastern musical motifs, and even an aggressive sounding synth that makes a brief stop in the song’s break.
It all seems to be the work of a man well aware of the rules of songwriting, and knowledgeable of the way people tend to react to pop music but deciding to ignore the regulations out of a longing to see just how far the music can go.
