Moon Machine – Happy To Be Here

Seems like there are two kinds of people left in this modern, confusing world of ours. There’s the vast majority that’s busy all day long trying to climb to the top and getting blood on their shirts each time that they need to push someone off.

However, although in the minority, more and more people are also starting to be those who are gently getting themselves off the swing set, looking for a way to wash the blood off, searching for a way to calm their nervous systems.

Music has to play a part in this as well, of course. And as some of us try to learn from the good examples set by some of our predecessors, perhaps it’s time to also embrace the sounds that calmed their minds. That’s what Moon Machine do with the band’s blend of ‘70s prog-rock and psychedelia.

Do you hear it? Good! But do you feel it, too? Moon Machine hope that you do! In fact, “Happy To Be Here,” recorded on analogue equipment and with a large investment in getting the interaction between the musicians just right, is designed to be music that produces as much warmth as a radiator stuck to your chest. And if that’s not reason enough to stop worrying, I don’t know what is!

Don’t worry about the state of the world. Wars, pollution, and global warming aren’t things that will have much effect in the long run. Nah, the planet will find its own clever way of shaking us off it, and things will begin again.

Rock music, fortunately, functions in the very same way. The moment that you’ve had enough of uninspired bands with bad haircuts all ripping each other off in the search for a hit single, something happens to shake them off into oblivion.

Just a few years ago, the idea of playing loud progressive rock would’ve been met with disinterest by young musicians and with yawns by the general rock audience. However, the so-called “math rock” has changed all of that. Inspired by the movement and driven by their own creativity, the musicians in IKAD! Have prepared a response.

If you’re a guitarist or have been active in any kind of rock combo, “Sequoia” is enough to make you want to start practising again, or just quit altogether and study science, instead. It’s a complex, well-executed sound that puts a new spin on the past, and makes you think that, yeah, there might be something to look forward to even now.
