My Mom Is Here – The Lucky Dudes

Bang! Some people just see it. And, there are some who have to be shown. There are those who can’t help but trace their steps back to love and hopefulness wherever they go. And, then, there are those who have to be reminded every minute not to despair, to remember that better things are on the horizon.

What a marvellous thing it must be to see and hear those symbols of hope regardless of where you are! What an incredible thing it must be to become the guide who needs someone to reveal those things! After all, there are those, and there aren’t many, born with a spark and a natural desire to connect themselves to light, love and hope. The musical project that goes by the moniker My Mom Is Here is attuned to many of those things.

People, however, are unlikely to give the right amount of attention unless you are fluently speaking their language. My Mom Is Here’s “The Lucky Dudes” is as contemporary in its communication as a text message or TikTok video. However, the music is informed by classic soul, with resonant, well-controlled vocals that are the highlight. “The Lucky Dudes” is a song about falling in love and staying that way. It’s a window opened by the songwriter for people to peek in before they can take the journey themselves.

Sundozer – Liquid Heaven

Back in the mid-1960s, Jeff Beck, playing for The Yardbirds at the time, would play Eastern scales using a fuzz guitar while trying to imitate the sound of a sitar. Naturally, the minds of audiences who witnessed this were blown.

Further up in rock’s history, in Britain of the late 1980s, groups favouring the use of guitar pedals and similar effects would mesmerise audiences through their use of controlled melodies and feedback. It was revolutionary!

But that was then, this is now, and each generation needs its own touch of psychedelia, its own dreams, its own way to challenge reality. Sundozer looks toward the future with a sound that takes inspiration from shoegaze and beat poetry.

In fact, “Liquid Heaven,” feels like the TikTok-age descendant of a Slowdive or My Bloody Valentine. Sundozer’s music is wrapped up in a similar, beautiful haze. The lyrics tell of worlds that may or may not exist outside of the imagination of the author. But, make no mistake about it, this is music designed with special focus to modern pop trends. This is music for the present day!
