nineplanfailed – house
Life seemed to include a lot more mysteries. But, then again, I suppose it would have to be what with so few eyes able to see at any one time. It wasn’t long ago that you could easily get yourself lost, and a lot of people did. It was merely years ago that, in order to find out anything about another person, you’d have to ask around and hope.
But, nowadays, everything’s secure. There’s a TV eye on everything anybody owns. And there’s a line going from that camera over to people paid to defend and protect. Ironically, however, all of this surveillance has had the opposite effect. If you need a sound to reflect your anxiety about your personal space nineplanfailed have it for you.
Of course, the Welsh band’s emotional, confrontational single “house” is, even more ironically, a song inspired by a break-in and by the feeling that, at no point, are you truly safe, or on your own. The key to the song is the power that the entire band brings to the performance, as well as the direct, undisguised anguish of the singing. Will we ever get to be alone again?
RedLight – Les Dérives
It’s up to you! I hate to disturb your comfort, but there’s nobody else going to do anything for you, not even find you the right kind of tunes, the music that will define your days and, possibly, lift you out of bed in the morning. There’s nobody who’s more invested in making your life special than yourself.
And, while big-money record labels from the States may insist that they have a monopoly on the kind of tunes that are able to reach the ears and mind of millions, they’re wrong. There’s a thriving world of daring art, creative thinking and anthemic rock music hidden just underneath the surface.
RedLight music is just the kind of prize waiting at the end of your research. The best things that one can say about the new single, “Les Dérives” is that it is as powerful and dynamic as any of the works by the famed, heavily marketed alt-rock bands from the States, and that, even more importantly, this is music that, as you can hear, retains its independence and originality.
