ONE-EARED BOY – Annie Anymore

What’s the story that really grabbed your attention this week? Was it the one about the hero rescuing kids from a burning building, or the one about the widow who donated everything she had to charity so that poor children could eat?

You’ve probably heard stories like that very recently. And, in all likelihood, they did make you feel, even, perhaps, tore a bit of your soul out in the process. But you’re like one of the many people bombarded with information constantly; you’ll also forget about those things quickly.

It’s in one ear and out the other in these times of hours. And, sadly, it’s a case of neither tragedy nor beauty being able to cut it. We’re all too wrapped up in our content addiction as ONE-EARED BOY knows so well.

“Annye Anymore” is a garage-rock palace-burner of a song. It’s a track meant to create excitement every time a power chord is hit. It’s also a song about fading memories, about the fact that few of us can even care about anything other than ourselves for more than a moment. ONE-EARED BOY gets it!

A.N.J.A. – Men Will Die Tonight

It’s very hard to become a good artist if there’s not anything in this world that you really want. In fact, it’s very hard to achieve just about anything in this world.  Satisfaction is a mighty wonderful thing, but it’s never a predictor for success.

Do you want something? Great! But is that what you really want? Are you being honest with yourself and with the people who might help you get it? See, the trick is that in this situation, you are forced to tell the truth if you’re hoping to move forward.

There’s no room for embarrassment here or for doubting yourself. It can be a thing as silly as revenge. After all, revenge has often moved entire empires, and that’s the energy being used by A.N.J.A.

“Men Will Die Tonight” is a post-grunge revenge fantasy and the kind of song where this kind of grit feels warranted and essential to the good functioning of the tune. The singer screams her heart out over American-style pop-rock melodies. But it’s that grit that keeps things moving.
