Ensorcelled: Orions Belte and Worms of Senses

Orions Belte and Worms of Senses

Worms of Senses – Millionaire

Similar artists: 31 Knots, Searching for Calm

Genre: Math Rock, Alternative Rock

The world is just as unwilling to pay for the ability to play an instrument really well as the Catholic Church is ready to pay for the purity of your soul. The real reward, if you choose to believe this, comes from pursuing the act itself.

That’s all very nice and noble but a little discouraging for those entertaining the idea of actually earning a living from a craft that requires years of their lives in order to master.

For better or for worse, in order to make a living out of something that you love doing, you have to turn it into something that can entertain enough people. These folks are usually entertained by things that they find comforting and familiar. This might explain the lack of Captain Beefheart songs on classic rock radio.

Poland’s Worms of Senses’ Millionaire is a demonstration of their tremendous technical ability. Still, it’s also powered by the kind of crystal-clear tenor vocals that will make it easy for them to get people to listen to their brand of math rock. It’s the hook meant to pull you into the complex world that they’ve created and a reliable strategy.

Orions Belte – Silhouettes

Genre: Psychedelic RockIndie Rock

Similar artists: Khruangbin, Can, !!!, Stones Throw Records

If you’re a kid from a small, uneventful town, you can be excused for being on the lookout for anything that will help you escape the drudgery of everyday life. Kids left to dream about big ideas can be easily swayed into avenues that lead them on a fast path to nowhere.

While your options may be limited, here’s something I’ve managed to learn. Run away from your dealers and from the people promising you a quick, easy buck, and run toward your record store clerk, your music fanatics, and your junkie music collectors.

There’s a whole wide world to be found there, and it’s every bit as exciting, strange, and unexpected as what the rivals of the music geeks may promise. Best of all, there’s no way of knowing where it will lead you!

Orions Belte’s Silhouettes is music meant to lead you to the tallest peak without a map. It’s an exploration of sounds and styles with the frenetic energy of a mad explorer. It’s music that gives meaning where there might have prior not been any. And it’s all built on a muddy road that is well worth traveling.
