Music fans across the world used to have heated debates about whether they liked the British or the American variety of a genre. British or American punk-rock? British or American prog? British or American dance music?
It wasn’t a case of being narrow-minded. For many, these were the available brands. Living in a small town, or in a country cut out from the mainstream music industry didn’t help. People needed to get a hold of records in order to listen to them, learn how they were created, and build their own blend.
The superiority of the Anglo-Americans in terms of popularity can well be disputed nowadays. Modern music distribution, for all its weaknesses, has allowed would-be artists to study just what and how much of what they please.
Eagle Vision, a music act from the Republic of Moldova, provides a sharp, clear vision of genre-blending on the single The Shell. This is not music created by accident. Rather it’s the work created by someone with a large magnifying glass and just the right place at which to aim it.

The internet and modern devices get blamed for people’s short attention span and a maniacal pursuit of pleasure. But, the truth is that we never stood a chance. At least, not the ones of us raised on records and posters of rock stars adorning our walls.
The hit parade, of which rock is customarily excluded, is a good metaphor for the world’s futile pursuit of stability. It always changes. It always looks to get your attention. And, it offers no space for reflection.
It’s an attempt to create chaos and control it. Outside look towards the masters of deafening silence, the likes of Deftones, or The Cure, for their single Serotonin.
Pay special attention to the highly convincing lead vocals, and the clever, colourful use of dynamics. Love this enough, and you might have found the alt-rock band you’ve been searching for for a long time.
