Pet Prophet – Computer Man

Most people aren’t funny, and the vast majority of those are making tiktok videos and booking themselves for stand-up shows. If they happen to say that they’re your friends, they’ll mak you attend said shows, like their videos, and the spread the gospel of their work. This will only back their assumptions about their brilliance, leading them to continue down this path.

It’s scientifically proven and statistically backed that most people simply do not possess a great sense of humor. Worse still, even more people lack any depth. When they pick up instruments and start writing songs, these two things ought to become obvious. Usually, they do not. These musicians either write terrible joke songs like Frank Zappa or awful post-grunge songs about being sad.

But Pet Prophet is quite funny and belonging to a different time. Ever heard about the Heaven’s Gate people still having a chat room up since the 1990s, in which the few survivors are admins in? Pet Prophet sounds like the creation of Beastie Boys fans discovering the internet and according to “Computer Man,” this may just be the place where the internet finally ends. “Computer Man” is fun, bouncy, and deserves to be an off-kilter hit, the kind that nobody can either explain or resist.

Vindigo – Constant Pleasure

Historians, record label executives and all of their accountants will be debating the decline of rock n’ roll long into the future. Why aren’t rock bands doing the same business as they used to? Why do many of the top stars have to wait five years instead of two before they can install a golden-plated swimming pool? The state of things is atrocious.

I’ve my own theories. The people writing the studies can feel free to quote me on it, and send my a copy. I think that rock n’ roll was a thrill before it became a business. People didn’t listen to rock because they wanted to be smart, just like they don’t eat chocolate thinking of their health. They did it to get a buzz. And, well, nowadays, there are so many things designed to give you micro-buzzes, small hits of pleasure that replace the earth-shattering thrills.

Vindigo’s “Constant Pleasure” is a thrilling indie-dance single about having too many thrills, too many choices, and too many things from which to ever possibly choose. “Constant Pleasure” is moved by an infectious disco-like beat and a light indie-rock touch, making this the kind of song best saved for indie discos. But the point is real. What does anything mean anymore when everything else has become available? Are we overstimulated to even enjoy some rock music? Either way, I wouldn’t much worry about since it’s probably already too late.
