Phantom Bay – Life’s Close
It’s hard to hear any words of encouragement. Nobody bothers giving you any pep talks. And, if anyone does stop to provide some optimism, this usually comes at a price. They’re either selling you advice, a course, or trying to sell you as a product.
That’s quite disappointing, especially since you need a positive outlook to do practically anything. Just try walking, one foot in front of the other, down a street and convince yourself that you can’t do it. You’ll just fall on your face!
Both optimism and pessimism are self-fulfilling prophecies. The latter has, certainly, more agents working for it. This is why, when you do find someone willing to waste time on you to remind you that “You can do it!” treasure them and believe them. Phantom Bay wants to be your life coach.
I’d certainly trust the people playing the loud guitars, more so than the folks in expensive suits. “Life’s Close,” after all, is a war cry, a song about nothing mattering more than the decision you make in this moment. Phantom Bay’s aggressive, but catchy punk-rock lets you know you have to reach for the stars and that there’ll always be someone to give you a lift.
Ridiculous Bitch – Engage
Do you get to do what you want, whenever you want to? Do you get to live life according to your own rules and never have anyone to tell you that you can’t! Congratulations! You are an incredible exception.
If you’ve checked all those boxes, you’re doing better not just than most people in the world, but throughout history. Our societies, let us not forget, were built through power and coercion. It’s a sad truth, but what do we do about it?
First, let’s take some time to find the strength to try to change things. For that, the music of Ridiculous Bitch, confrontational, rebellious and just slightly cartoonish, may provide us with the anthems that we need.
“Engage” sounds like an angry, lively alt-rock band, but also like a song dedicated to everyone trying to change the world and willing to face the hardships that come with it. If this kind of rock n’ roll is meant to do anything, it’s to change people’s attitudes.
